Great Grand Boulevard Pumpkin Walk 2022

Hi Neighbours,

This is a heads-up about the Pumpkin Walk that the Grand Boulevard Residents Association (GBRA) is now planning for October 29, 2022, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Last year was the first Pumpkin Walk, on Saturday, October 30, 2021. The City of North Van organized it with lots of help from community organizations, including GBRA, and first responders. And the weather was excellent!

The most important element of the Pumpkin Walk is Carving Pumpkins. In 2021, many people volunteered time and imagination to carve or paint about 200 pumpkins, to line the central path of Grand Boulevard between 13th Street and 15th Street. There were volunteers from the North Shore Neighbourhood House, RCMP, Firefighters, teachers and students from local schools, and parents and Grand Boulevard neighbours. United Way helped with funding and St. Andrews on 8th brought hot chocolate. And who doesn’t love costumed dancers performing to spooky music!

People arrived from all over the City and District of North Van, many dressed in Halloween costumes. Some had a photo taken by Oliver, our volunteer photographer from the Grand Boulevard Residents Association. Parents signed a waiver and we collected email addresses before taking each photo. Then Oliver sent out a digital Pumpkin Walk photo to each family, in the first week of November. Thanks to those recipients who expressed their appreciation after receiving their free photo in an email. It’s so encouraging!

This year, the Grand Boulevard Residents Association is organizing the community outreach to line up volunteers to carve pumpkins, paint pumpkins or decorate the Grand Boulevard paths or trees between 13th and 15th Streets. We will supply the tools at workshops which we will organize in the week of October 24 – 28, after school. We are hoping to collect names and contact information of volunteers who will offer their imaginative, fun-loving talents to carve a pumpkin, help at an after-school workshop or decorate the Boulevard on Saturday, October 29, between 11:00 and 3:00 p.m.

Please Leave a Reply in the box at the bottom of this page. We will get back to you by the end of September, to give you the schedule for events leading up to and including October 29. You might also see a notice in your school’s PAC Newsletter.

GBRA really appreciates your time and energy to help make this year’s Pumpkin Walk super-duper!
